Spread the Holiday Spirit
Latch on to the affirmative, don't mess with Mister In-Between - Johnny Mercer
At this time last year, I shared posts reflecting on how to take advantage of downtime.
I remember how hard it was to relax when I was in the midst of my own transition. I felt guilty for taking a break. It seemed counterintuitive to take my foot off the gas when I had yet to reach my destination. Beating myself up for a lack of progress became a guilty pleasure. On the other hand, self-flagellation never seems like a good use of time.
You are moving towards your goal of a new career. Even if today is your first day, the mere act of starting is momentous. Give yourself a chance to appreciate the steps you’re taking on a daily basis. The transition isn’t meant to be easy. It’s going to take drive, determination and a lot of guts.
Still, you can’t finish the marathon if you run yourself into the ground. Count your blessings and take time off.
Make sure to talk to someone. That someone could be a connector or a trailblazer. A good friend works too. It’s reassuring to share your worries and ideas. You’ll get feedback and relief. This will be another means to realize how far you’ve come.
Accentuate the positive. Eliminate the negative. 2023 is going to be your year.
